Zu den heute vom Aussterben bedrohten Baumarten gehört auch die weissblütige Rosskastanie (Aesculus hippocastanum). Der Artikel diskutiert den Einfluss der frühzeitigen Entlaubung durch Schädlingsbefall mit ihren Auswirkungen auf den Kohlestoffhaushalt, sowie die Auswirkungen anderer Umweltfaktoren auf den Vitalitätsverlust der Bäume. Die Rolle der Rosskastanie in Pharmazie und Kosmetik wird von historischen Anwendungen über phytotherapeutische Aspekte bis zu Gesichtspunkten der Anthroposophischen Medizin dargestellt.
