Vortrag des zweiten naturwissenschaftlichen Kurses, des sogenannten Wärmekurses, behandelt Rudolf Steiner vier Typen von Differentialgleichungen, die für die quantitativ-mathematische Beschreibung bestimmter Naturvorgänge eine zentrale Rolle spielen. Den Ausgangspunkt für diese Art der Naturbeobachtung bildet die Wämeleitungsgleichung, die Fourier im Jahre 1822 für die Ausbreitung der Wärme in festen Körpern aufgestellt hat. [...]

It was pointed out by Rudolf Steiner that diffential equations governing the »four ethers« can be derived by modification of differntial equations of the flow of heat in solids. In this paper, the latter ist compared to one that would apply to the »chemical ether«. Ways are shown to investigate the properties of both equations by simple means in order to learn to apperciate the nature of processes belonging to the respective realms. The approach ist illustrated by the analogy between the processes of the diffusion of heat and light. Furthermore it is shown that many topics of contemporary science are examples for the »chemical ether« - type processes.
