Netzwerke des Lebens – Cross Kingdom Kommunikation durch Mikrobiome und Exosomen

Elemente der Naturwissenschaft 121, 2024, P. 5-23 | DOI: 10.18756/edn.121.5

Abstract:

What appears at first glance to be very specialised microbiological insider knowledge, on closer inspection turns out to be an insight with revolutionary potential. With the increasing depth of our molecular and genetic analytical capabilities, a fascinating and complex network of intercellular communication and interaction processes that span the various domains of life becomes apparent. As humans, we are not only related to the other kingdoms of nature in terms of evolutionary biology, but – as is increasingly becoming apparent – we are also interconnected genetically and functionally to a surprisingly high degree. The horizons of our understanding of medical-ecological interrelationships are expanding to dimensions previously not thought possible.
