Abstract:
This second part of the article contains a review of different approaches to the homologisation of flower organs with the leaf. Glück compares the shape of the petals with that of the leaf. Eames compares the venation of the stem leaves with that of the flower organs and finds them to be comparable. Buzgo et al. propose a continuous metamorphosis from the leaf to the carpel. Baum and Leinfellner argue that the bract forms the basis of the stamen and carpel. For Claßen-Bockhoff, the stamen is a unique organ without leaf characteristics. The author’s conclusion that the leaf base of the stem leaf is related to the calyx, corolla and stamens, and the leaf blade to the carpel, is corrected by a subsequent comparison of the two higher-order organ structures of the shoot bud and the flower. The significance of the shoot bud for understanding the structure of angiosperms was addressed by Goethe, de Candolle and Arber. The homologisation of these two higherlevel organs leads to the archetypal model of a perennial flowering plant proposed in the first part of the article (Elemente 123).
