Open peer review

Since 1993 the Elemente der Naturwissenschaft has practised an open peer review process and is probably one of the first journals to have introduced this form of review. After an initial formal reading by the editor, two reviewers revise and comment on the manuscript. The identities of the author and reviewers are known to each other. (Disclosure of the author and/or reviewers can be withheld if requested).

Apart from this, the procedure follows the same lines that you will be accustomed to in other journals, and is primarily aimed at improving the submitted manuscript until it is ready for publication.

Publication

If the reviewers and the editor approve the publication of a manuscript, then it will appear both online and in the printed medium of Elemente. The authors of original contributions receive two specimen copies of the journal and a pdf version of their article for distribution and self-archiving.
