Foliar Silica Application and Lodging Resistance of Oats

Elemente der Naturwissenschaft 38, 1983, P. 26-35 | DOI: 10.18756/edn.38.26

Abstract:

Lodging resistance determined by the lodging resistance factor CL„ of two oat (Avenu sutivu) cultivars ”Rodney” and ”Au Sable" correlated with the silica content of the plants grown under different conditions. Foliar applications of silica (biodynamic preparation 501) during growth at a rate of 40 to 50 g per ha enhanced the lodging resistance factor ch of the more lodging prone cultivar „Rodney” under field as well under controlled environmental conditions.
