Abstract:
The theories of weather in Aristotelian meteorology are presented with reference to their fundamental principles and methods. In part one I describe the general assumptions of Aristotle‘s meteorology. Some fundamental principles of his science of nature, his cosmology and his element or anathymiasis theory are discussed. In the second part (Elemente der Naturwissenschaft 2/2009) I present the essential features of Aristotle‘s theory of weather. In particular, I go into his comments on the formation of precipitation, his wind theory and his atmospheric optics. By comparing these comments with corresponding comments in Häckel’s (2005) textbook of meteorology, I show some differences and similarities in the views behind their two presentations.
