Abstract:
The original concept for mixing the sap of misteltoes makes use of a fast rotating disk. Helixor has developed an alternative process for this purpose: Egg shaped vessels are partially filled with the juice of misteltoes, which was reaped in winter. A stirring wheel positioned at the bottom of the vessel is rotating while the sap of misteltoes (reaped in summer) is droping into the vessel. The mixing flow generated in this stage of the process was the subject of an investigation, accomplished in a cooperation of Helixor and the »Max-Planck-Institut für Strömungsforschung«. This flow may be seen as a superposition of a primary flow, which ist circulating in the horizontal plane and a secondary flow, which is circulating too but more slowley an in a vertical plane. Therby a system of differently scaled whirls arises from the large whirl of the primary flow down to the small whirls of turbulence.
