Abstract:
The reductionistic and holistic approaches to landscape are complementary. The former allows for detailed quantification, whereas the latter stresses the personal relation between man and nature and, as a consequence, reveals qualities. The holistic approach follows three distinct steps: Esthetics - emphasizing the significance of perception; Leitbild - regarding landscape as organism or individuality; dynamic criteria for evaluation, realization and maintainance of measures envisaged. It is shown that sustainibility is best guaranteed by support of individual responsibility and reduction of regulations.
